Between October 5 and 8, 2008 ECWA teachers, lecturers and leaders will have a unique opportunity to learn principles and methodology of interactive adult learning. Jim and Janice North will be the facilitators. Almost every ECWA Department and higher level institution has been invited to send select staff members to this training. There may be some slots for SIM, depending on registration. If you serve at JETS, Kagoro, Sports Friends, Egbe Nursing School, City Ministries, Discipleship or Christian Ed, please make sure your unit registers when the letter arrives from me and the ECWA General Secretary.

The seminary just completed and furnished its one story library building. It houses all the lecturers offices as well as a large lecture hall all on the ground floor. The upper floor houses the readings, thesis writers, reference, and stack areas. There are 17,000 volumes of books apart from the journals, audio and videos cassettes, and tapes for individual and class use. The Internet facility is located on the upper floor of the library where lecturers and students browse and send emails.

On tour in Yankari
On tour in Yankari (photo: Becca Sauerwein)
Two STA’s and I (George Janvier) went to Yankari and Steyr this week. For those intending to travel to Yankari here is the latest news.

The trip to Bauchi and Yankari was smooth, lots of fuel all the way, road in very reasonable condition. From the main turn off to the Yankari Park gate the road is pot holey but okay. The new Yankari road from the park gate to the park itself is nice. Compared to the old dirt road it is a super highway. The new road is 75 percent complete and the uncompleted sections are not bad. These sections are just being finished at this time.

Night classes for Sudanese soldiers Print E-mail

Nigerian missionary Emmanuel with some of the soldiers near Abwong base
Nigerian missionary Emmanuel with some of the soldiers near Abwong base

From our Rebuilding Southern Sudan team, which includes nine Nigerian ECWA missionaries:

The top military commander stationed near our Abwong base requested we hold night classes for his soldiers. Using materials from our Basic Education Learning Center at Abwong, the missionaries had the amazing opportunity to teach the soldiers from a biblical perspective. Soon, Colonel Moses & many of the soldiers began attending the newly-formed church in Abwong.

PRAY FOR

  • our testimony to the soldiers stationed near our bases.
  • wisdom in handling demands made by military personnel.
  • our missionary women to feel safe & be respected by the soldiers.
  • our 9 Nigerian missionaries currently in Nigeria trying to obtain visas allowing them in & out of Kenya. They need these visas in case of sudden evacuation from Sudan, for business issues in Nairobi & also for periodic “Rest & Resupply”.
