 The annual SIM Nigeria Spiritual Life Conference earlier this month was a great success. Coming on the heels of the riots a month earlier, it offered us all a chance for some rest, fellowship, recreation, fun, and encouragement. As usual, the talent night was one of the highlights, giving us all a wonderful dose of laughter therapy. I think I laughed hardest during the skit where Terry and Sue and Mary were trying to set off from Jos to Kano on a motorcycle, complete with all their luggage and the newly-mandated motorcycle helmets --mixing bowls in this skit, representative of the creative "helmets" the motorcycle drivers in Nigeria have been using to comply with the new law.
For en-couragement (imparting courage), nothing could top the series of messages from Dr. Danny McCain, Starting with the theme, "As the Father has sent me, so I send you," Danny showed us from the ministries of Jesus and Paul in what ways our commission as Christians corresponds to the way the Father sent Jesus.
The memorable phrase of the series, which none who were there will forget, was "Whenever God works on this earth, he works the hard way, the slow way, the difficult way, the painful way, the progressive way, the way that is opposite of the way we would do things."
