What does a NZ grandmother do for 3 months in Jos?

  • Makes new friends from US, Northern Ireland, Nigeria, Australia, India, Ethiopia and even meets NZ relatives whom she hasn't met before.
  • Experiences shopping in the markets, dodging crazy traffic and being welcomed by strangers everwhere she goes.
  • Shares meals, prayer times and Bible Study with many young people eager to share the Good News of salvation with the needy people of this vast country, as they also seek God's will and call upon their own lives.
  • Fellowships with young Nigerian widows who are learning to sew and knit in an effort to support their families and gain a small measure of independence.
  • Read and shred reams of paper as she updates the SIM office filing system
  • Finds spiritual strength in the dark, lonely nights when Jesus is her constant companion and source of comfort
  • Worships in different churches, with people of different cultures, knowing that the God we worship is the Sovereign Lord of all.

These are 'prime years' when I can put aside some of the responsibilities of parenthood and use the time and talents that God has given me to aid the extension of His Kingdom in a country which is so vastly different from my own. I thank Him for enabling me to see that His Kingdom extends over all the earth, and though we all have trials and suffering ' He is able to keep us from falling'. Jude 24
