Line 10: Mun gode Allah (Mun gōdḕ Allā̀h)

This line means “we thank God.” Complaining about the weather does not seem to be part of the Hausa greetings & small talk. Rather than complaining about or praising the weather, the proper Hausa reply is to thank God who has ordained it. The other common response is lōkàcinsā̀ nē meaning “it's the time for it.”

  • Listen several times to the tone and flow.
  • Try imitating the tone and rhythm in the “la-da-da” or humming voice.
  • Sketch out the tone contour.
  • Listen to and repeat the phrase until you match the speaker closely.
