Urban Ministries

SIM/ECWA City Ministries operates about twenty Care Centers throughout Nigeria. Some of these are named “Gidan Bege” (“House of Hope” in the Nigerian language Hausa). During 2011, we will help care for approximately 400 orphans and needy children and will provide over 500,000 meals to those in need, working in conjunction with some 250 Nigerian staff and volunteers to serve Nigeria's most challenged communities.City Ministries also runs a school for widows in Jos.

Besides City Ministries, SIM missionaries are involved in other urban ministries such as prison visitation and the new Grace Garden halfway house for prostitutes who want to leave their old lives behind.

Sara Groves is singing the song in this video, called “I Saw What I Saw.” She wrote it after her visit to Rwanda.

I saw what I saw and I can't forget it
I heard what I heard and I can't go back
I know what I know and I can't deny it
Something on the road, cut me to the soul
Your pain has changed me
Your dream inspires
Your face a memory
Your hope a fire
Your courage asks me what I'm afraid of (what I am made of) and what I know of love.
