ReadMe! Notes on using this orientation

This course is under construction as of mid-2011 and is sure to have rough edges! There are a few things you should pay attention to before getting started.

• Fonts. Hausa has some special characters not found in every font. Do you have a compatible font on your browser? To check, compare the characters below. The right and left ones should match, if not exactly then at least in the basic form. Fonts that work include Segoe UI, Calibri, Tahoma, DejaVu Sans, Helvetica Neue, Arial, Times New Roman, Gentium Basic and Gentium Book Basic. If you have at least one of these installed and the characters below still do not look the same, please let us know. You can download these fonts free: Gentium, DejaVu Sans Book (be sure to get this one or the condensed version, as other members of the DejaVu family don't work),

• Sound. Currently, we're using Adobe Flash for sound and games, so you will need to have Adobe Flash Player installed on your browser. Many of the spoken words and phrases are indicated by a button like the one on the right. In other cases words are highlighted like this; clicking on them plays the sound.
• Navigation. As you probably already know, there are buttons at the bottom of each page (or above the comment section) for moving to the previous or next page. It's best to follow the normal sequence within a section. You can use the menu on the left of the page to move to different sections (e.g. Greetings 1, Fruits & Vegetables, etc.).
• Comments: Please use the comments form freely to point out errors, ask questions, make suggestions, and so on. The comments are moderated so you will not see yours appear immediately.
